It is critical in the transition to the digital healthcare field of the future that a work force capable of using health communications and information technology is in place. The IT for Healthcare curriculum is designed to meet this emerging demand and aims to equip students and workers with the skills needed to enter and advance in healthcare careers.
The program utilizes a modern laboratory equipped with current tablet PCs, Microsoft software, internet access and other technologies which provide students the opportunity to gain real-world skills and experience required by healthcare employers.
The Information Technology for Healthcare program at NSCC is a three part career pathway in healthcare and technology.
- Short-Program Achievement Certificate
- This 15-credit Certificate of Achievement provides an introduction to computer systems, networks, and software applications commonly used in the business, health, and medical fields. HIPAA and IT security are also introduced. It is intended for currently employed healthcare professionals who wish to add IT skills to their professional qualifications. It is also designed for those who are beginning their healthcare career and need basic IT skills, and the IT student who would like to become acquainted with healthcare.
- One Year Achievement Certificate

This certificate provides a background in medical fundamentals, project management, general IT skills and emerging IT in healthcare concepts. It is designed for displaced workers looking for entry level jobs in the Healthcare field that require IT skills. Students who earn this certificate are prepared for IT in health support positions such as:
- IT Support/Data Analyst
- IT Project Coordinator
- Unit Coordinator
- Front Desk
- Patient Coordinator
- Scheduler
- Associate of Applied Science Degree

The culmination of the program is the
AAS
degree in IT for Healthcare
giving a well rounded curriculum that will enable graduates to work in the
medical field in hospitals, home health or ambulatory care facilities in
various entry level positions within Information Services Departments, such as:
- Help/Service Desk Analyst
- Clinical Support Staff
- Technical Support
- Data Center Analyst
