North offers an A.A.S. degree in Allied Health Sciences for graduates of certificate programs in Medical Assisting,
Practical Nursing, and Pharmacy Technician.
The A.A.S degree provides a more liberalized education than the certificate issued by a vocational program. The degree
includes a minimum of 90 quarter credits from three categories:
- 45-60 credits for a certificate of achievement from an NSCC Health-Medical Program (At least 45 credits and a maximum of 60 credits may be applied toward the AAS Degree)
- 25 or more credits outside of the technical discipline, including communication, computation or quantitative reasoning,
human relations, US cultures, Global Studies or the other remaining areas.
- 20 Elective credits
The general education courses will transfer to many four-year colleges. Although the vocational courses do not transfer for
a bachelor's degree, many employers view the A.A.S. degree as a sign of increased competence and
readiness for career or salary advancement.
